Welcome to Astro City
I remember buying the first issue of Astro City when it came out back in 1995. (Yes, I'm very old.) As a lifelong comics reader, I had enjoyed Kurt Busiek's work on Avengers (and other books) and was excited to see this new title.
What I love about Astro City is that at a time when Image Comics was thriving on the strength of large-than-life, over-the-top takes on superheroes (as in Spawn, Youngblood, etc.), Astro City was about the personal stories that took place in the background.
That first issue asks what a Superman would dream of. A man with immense power and immense responsibility dreams of flying free, without the need to save everyone, just for a little bit. And it only gets better from there.
If you haven't read Astro City before, you're in for a treat. And if you have, do what I did when Image released these metrobooks - binge it all again!
